The National Museum of Taras Shevchenko is a literary and art museum in Kyiv dedicated to the life and work of Ukrainian poet and artist, philosopher, public intellectual Taras Shevchenko. It has literary and artistic parts. Until February 24, 2022, the halls of the artistic part of the exhibition featured paintings, sketches, graphics, watercolors, etchings (as well as tools for creating them) by Taras Shevchenko. After the outbreak of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, this exhibition partially resumed its work, and the original works of Taras Shevchenko were replaced by copies or video installations as part of the exhibition project “Shevchenko: Mosaic of Painting.”
After the 2014 reconstruction, the National Taras Shevchenko Museum got an atrium, a new space for contemporary art exhibitions. During the period of martial law, the museum regularly holds such exhibitions. The museum institution has taken care of accessibility for visitors with limited mobility, with elevators and ramps installed in the building.
